£7,500 standard
For an air source heat pump replacing most existing heating systems, including mains gas. The normal figure for the majority of Leeds homes.

Leeds · Air source heat pumps only
Not a catalogue size picked off a price list. A room-by-room heat loss survey first, then a system that heats the whole house at a flow temperature it can actually run at.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, deducted from your invoice. £9,000 for off-gas-grid homes on oil or LPG until 31 March 2027.
Three questions. We’ll come back with where you stand on the grant.

Why surveys matter
Almost every unhappy heat pump story comes back to the same thing: the system was sized off a rule of thumb instead of a heat loss calculation. Oversized, undersized or running too hot, and the bills never land where they were promised.
A proper heat loss survey answers it. Ring us and we'll talk it through before anybody books anything.
The grant
England and Wales, open to owner-occupiers and landlords, and not means tested. It comes off your invoice rather than being claimed back later.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is paid through an MCS certified installer, who applies for the voucher and takes the grant off your invoice before you pay. NorthStar designs the system and manages your job; the installation is carried out and MCS certified by our MCS registered installation partner, and it is their certification the grant is claimed against.
That means you get the grant deducted up front in the normal way. It also means eligibility is confirmed by the certified installer rather than by us, which is the only honest way to put it.

For properties with no mains gas connection currently heated by oil or LPG. Runs until 31 March 2027. Relevant out towards Bardsey, Thorner, Collingham and the Wharfedale villages.
Qualifying domestic installations are zero rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, so there is no VAT added on top of a qualifying quote.

Reviews
Reproduced word for word from customers of the wider NorthStar group. Nothing rewritten, nothing tidied up.
Just had 6 indoor Mitsubishi AC units fitted by the guys at NorthStar Air Con Doncaster. Excellent work carried out by the team and really pleased with the installation and end result - very tidy! I was impressed with the attention to detail and how they considered different installation options to keep the pipe runs outside of the house to a minimum. Very professional company to deal with and really felt like they worked with you throughout. We mainly went for the system because of the heating efficiency and running costs compared to oil with the recent price changes, while also getting the benefit of air conditioning in the warmer weather 😄
We had a fantastic experience with NorthStar Air Con Doncaster recently having 5 AC units installed. Communication was really easy over WhatsApp beforehand and just as easy with the engineers during the installation. They worked around us, were very respectful and professional throughout. We got both a really high quality installation and great customer service which can be hard to find. Would definitely use them again.
So happy with NorthStar Air Con Doncaster, from our first enquiry through to the installation and handover everyone was really helpful and knowledgeable. The installation team were fantastic, the work was done to a great standard, no mess left behind and all rubbish was cleared from site. I would highly recommend NorthStar Air Con Doncaster to anyone thinking about having AC installed, very professional from start to finish.
We recently had a Mitsubishi LN unit installed at our home by NorthStar Air Con Doncaster. The installation was carried out very professionally and the workmanship was excellent. The team were polite and respectful throughout the whole process. We had it fitted just before the recent heatwave and it has been brilliant. Would highly recommend them to anyone considering having AC installed. 10/10!
Very professional service from start to finish. I needed air conditioning fitted in my home office and NorthStar Air Con Doncaster sent me details of all the different options available which made it easy to choose the right one for my needs and budget. Installation was quick and efficient and the aftercare has been great too. Would definitely recommend.
Where we install
Heat pumps suit some properties far better than others, and Leeds has the full range — well-insulated newer homes where a heat pump is straightforward, solid-wall Victorian stock that needs thinking about, and the off-gas villages out towards Wetherby, Bardsey and Thorner where the case is strongest of all.

FAQs
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £7,500 off the installed cost in England and Wales, and the grant is deducted from your invoice rather than claimed back afterwards. What you pay on top depends on the size of the system, how many radiators need changing and what happens with hot water, so anybody giving you a firm figure before surveying the house is guessing. We survey first, then put the number in writing.
Only if the property is off the mains gas grid and currently heated by oil or LPG. That uplift runs until 31 March 2027. Round Leeds it applies mainly out in the villages — Bardsey, Thorner, Collingham and similar. On mains gas the grant is £7,500.
NorthStar is not MCS certified. Installations are carried out and MCS certified by our MCS registered installation partner, and the grant is claimed against their certification. That is the arrangement, and it is how your grant reaches you. We would rather say that plainly than let you find out later.
Qualifying domestic heat pump installations are currently zero rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, so there is no VAT added to a qualifying install.
Often yes, but it depends on heat loss rather than on age. A solid-wall Victorian house with no insulation will need either improvement work or a larger system and bigger radiators. We would rather tell you that at survey stage than fit something that disappoints you every January.
Usually not all of them. Heat pumps run at a lower flow temperature than a boiler, so each radiator gives out less heat and some need to be larger. A heat loss calculation works out room by room which ones actually need changing — typically a handful rather than the lot.
A modern monobloc is roughly comparable to a fridge at a few metres. Siting matters more than the badge: away from bedroom windows, clear space front and back for airflow, and on proper anti-vibration feet rather than straight onto a slab.
Yes. They extract heat from outside air well below zero, and systems in Britain are designed around a local winter design temperature rather than a mild day. Efficiency drops when it is very cold, which is exactly why the system is sized for the worst day rather than the average one.
A heat pump heats a cylinder rather than making hot water on demand like a combi, so you need somewhere for one — usually an airing cupboard, loft or utility. If you are coming off a combi, finding that space is normally the biggest practical change.
Most domestic installs run two to four days on site, depending on radiator changes, cylinder work and where the unit goes. The survey and design happen before any of that, and you get the timescale in writing with the quote.
